Addiction and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

Meeting the Needs of Families Affected by Substance Use and Intimate Partner Violence

Here is a monograph from the Abandoned Infants Assistance program at the University of California at Berkeley. It goes over risk factors, signs and symptoms and ways to be helpful to families in which these co-occurring issues are playing out. Of course, a trauma-informed approach would require that the mother in the first vignette be screened for safety issues, and it seems rare that an addiction treatment program any more would look at "just addiction." Remembering, however, that we more readily perceive things about which we have some training and understanding, the information provided here should serve as a good review for anyone working with--anyone--really.
